SPACE SAVER—Smaller capacity Toastmaster de luxe automatic electric water heater may be installed in kitchen or utility rooms at no sacrifice of space. Standard tabletop height permits use of the water heater as additional working surface when installed in kitchen cabinet area.
Osterheld of | built i electric water heater, Toastmaster | water heaters have come a long
Since 1918, when the late Clark Stoughton, Wis,
the first external-element
way. Mr. Osterheld built his first model in his garage out of .a range boiler and a series of crudely assembled, wire-wound percelain blocks.
The first operating model was not much to look at, but it was effective. It heated water efficiently and it didn’t take Mr. Osterheld long to discover that “lime” (boiler scale) didn't form inside the tank. The heat was distributed evenly over a wide area—through the surface of the tank. Lime formed
.only above 178 degrees. Thermo-
statically controlled below that critical point, scale never formed: inside the tank walls.
Blocks Control Wattage
Today's modern, functional Toastmaster deluxe water heater still retains that same fundamental principle. The now-famous “Life-Belt” element, is made up of a series of white porcelain element blocks, cut with scien{tifically accurate precision to jaccommodate the finest nickelchromium resistance ‘wire. The number of blocks assembled into {the completed band controls the iwattage of the finished water theater. {master “Life-Belt” element offers {two major advantages: The no-
liming feature promotes constant efficiency over a longer period.| Heat produced by the element) does not need to force its way! through a layer of heat-resisting| scale before water can be heated. | And because the elements never need to reach extreme temperatures, burnouts are rare, {
Replaced Quickly
Secondly, if a single elementblock needs replacing or servicing | for any reason, it may be removed and replaced quickly and easily— without draining the tank. |
Careful maintenance of the| original heating method has] proved worthwhile. Many installations of 25 years or more ago are still in daily operation. From Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, letters to the manufacturer, McGraw Electric Co. of] Chicago, regularly explain that] old Clark water, now known as Toastmaster, are being replaced— not because they are no longer operative—but because their owners require more gallons of hot water per day.
Cleaning Exterio
The smooth porcelain enamel exterior of your washer is easily kept clean by going over it with a damp cloth. The surface should be kept free of soap and suds| which might drip onto it in use.
| To the consumer, the Toast- Occasional use of a special wax| polish will keep the exterior look-
ling like new.
