10 Saved From Bay 'After Boat Explosion

NEWARK, N. J, June 8 (UP)~~ Ten persons, eight of them slightly injured, were rescued from the waters of Newark Bay last night after leaping from a cabin cruiser which exploded and burned to the water line. The 33-foot cruiser “Stinky” had left the Jersey City Yacht Club in Bayonne for an evening pleasure cruise when it was rocked by the explosion. Two

nearby tugs rescued the 10 persons, including ‘two children.

Firm to Correct Faults in 'Copters Navy Banned

MORTON, Pa., June 8 (UP)— The Piasecki Corp. sald today it would take about a week to correct a minor fault in some helicopters delivered to naval units.

Use of the helicopters was panned temporarily by the Navy yesterday after it was informed of the construction flaw by the company, Piasecki, a leading developer and manufacturer of speedy longrange and 20-passenger rescue helicopters, said the flaw cone sisted of cracks in a pully bracket made of a welded aluminum alloy.

COLUMBIA, 8. C., June 8 (UP) —The Army ordered an investigation today of a mortar shell explosion which killed one soldier,

injured 36, and gave other infantry trainees a premature taste of combat. ; The defective 60 - millimeter shell exploded the instant it cleared the tube of a mortar on a Ft. Jackson firing range yesterday. Members of the 8th Infantry Training Division receiving asic weapon instruction were sprayed with steel fragments. Maj. Gen. Harry J.
