AFTER LEE Wallard won the 500-Mile Race last Wednesday,

down the car the next day and found a crack in the frame, They said the frame probably wouldn't have broken very soon and wasn't a hazard to Wallard . . . but they said it probably couldn't have run another 500-Mile that way... One of Wallard's big worries after the race was what to do with a new automobile he had ordered back home in Altamont, N.Y. The day after the race the dealer he bought it from telephoned him and said he had it ready for delivery,
“When I ordered it,” Wallard sald, holding his head, “I never thought about winning the 500mile race and getting the Chrysler pace car free. Now I have two cars, so I'll drive the Jove ear and give the one I ught to my wife . . . Bill Holland, who won the 500mile race in 1948 and who convinced Wallard in 1047 that he should make a try at Indianapolis, couldn't even get into the pit area at the Speedway to see his friends. The Speedway or AAA officials wouldn't give Holland a pass because he is under suspension by the AAA for taking part in a non-AAA stock car event in Florida last fall. Look for Bill to be back in the “500” next year. His suspension terminates this. fall and he has a car lined up now for the classic.
