Wallard, McGrath Close Wallard and McGrath each had won $1000 in lap money after the first 50 miles. Green, who at one time was on the verge of being bumped out of the race because of faster qualification speeds, was tailing Wallard, only about three feet behind. Mack Hellings’ car, the Tuffa-nelli-Derrico Spl., was out of the race after the 18th lap due to a broken piston. This was a new car this year, costing about $30,000. Nalon and his pole-winning car were racing about four laps be-| hind the leaders. At the end of 30 laps, Wallard was leading Green by one-fifth of a second. George Connor's Blue Crown Spark Plug Spl., No. 22, stopped | on the southeast turn after 29 laps with a smoking engine. It was out of the race. | Cliff Griffith in the Morris Spl. stopped on the northeast turn while he was on his 31st lap. The wrecker pulled the gar into the infield. It was out of the race. At the end of 30 laps the average speed for Wallard was 130.468, another new track record. He
