The damage is being done by a high-powered radio station. inaugurated May 1 in Munich, Germany, by Radio Free Europe whose international headquarters are in the Empire State Building, New York City. Irked by the broadcasts, the Czech. government has protested officially to Washington against “warmongering” and “unfriendly “broadcasts.” But the State Department answered that Radio Free Europe is a private organization over which it has no control. Radio Free Europe pulls no punches. It slugs and it slugs

Only yesterday Secretary of State Dean Acheson urged the people in Russian Premier Josef Stalin's native Georgia to join free men in throwing off Communist “despotism.” In an unprecedented Voice of America broadcast to the Georgians in their own language, Mr. Acheson told them the world knows how® often they have fought for freedom and defended Christian civilization. : “You have often been conquered but never subdued,” he said, “You have been able, throughout the ages, to preserve your national personality,

“It is no wonder that the government is beginning to get somewhat frantic,” says Ferdinand Peroutka, formerly editor of Prague's leading newspaper Lidove Novimy. One of the most successful has been the interviewing of Czechs who recently fled to ‘Germany.
