We, the Women— Triangle Often Backfires When 'Great Love' Is Over
By RUTH MILLETT MOST of the ‘triangle” letters that come my way are written by wives whose husbands are interested in
another woman and who ask, “What do I do now?”
But here is one from a man who, according to his own description of her, has a “fine wife” and a 20-year-old son, who has met a woman, also married and also a mother, that he thinks he is in love with. He admits he may not take my advice, but asks for it anyway. He is certainly going to get it, for there is one question in particular that I want to answer for him. He asks of this new found love that hit him so hard ~and so suddenly: “Will it last as we think it will, or will it pass over and some day seem kind of silly?” It will certainly pass if you give it a chance to. Or you‘can kid yourself that you have, all unintentionally, finally found the great love of your life—one well worth breaking up two homes for, worth forsaking Ruth Millett the woman who has been a good wife to you for many years, and almost assuredly losing the respect of your son. » » ” ” » ¥ IT’S JUST UP TO YOU. If you want to kid yourself along, enjoying the role of great lover, you can probably tell yourself for a while, at least, that it is fate and none of your doing, that you are caught up in something bigger than you are, and so on and on. vr ’ Or you can be your age, see this infatuation for what it is to both of you—an escape from the humdrum business of every-
