strong feeling existed around the Greentree Stable ‘headquarters at old Pimlico today that Big Stretch

of 33 cars May 30. Thirteen cars have qualified. At least two are on” the fringe of the-bump list and possibly can be nudged by faster cars. Although Speedway has been showing the characteristics of a “week-end track,” more cars than usual are getting in their practice tours late in the afternoon in preparation for Saturday and Sunday's second week-end ‘of qualifications. Rookies Lag Rookie drivers are far behind schedule in completing their driving tests and at least a dozen cars have yet to show up in the garage area. The number stood at 52 late yesterday with the arrival of the new Coast Grain Special that Manuel Ayulo will drive. Indications that several drivers will make their cars average fast enough to start this year's race are born out by Carl Forberg and Bill Schindler. Forberg whistled a 133 mph lap Yesterday in the Auto Shippers Special. He's been flirting with that speed consistently and the car is coming down the main chute like it was on rails. Schindler in the Chapman Special has topped 132. Both should do better when they leave -the qualifying apron Saturday. Other garages are bothered by troubles including the national driving champion, Henry Banks. The Karl Hall Special has a burned piston. Banks, endeavoring to get his No. 1 Blue Crown Spark Plug Special in shipshape, saw the back end af his car late yesterday start to come around where the front end should have been. Banks, on a test hop, got into trouble going into the northeast turn. Tight shocks caused the!
