Big Drop in Incomes
WASHINGTON, May 16 (UP)‘Railroad earnings will drop to $459,886,000 this year compared [to $715,886,000 in 1950 unless {freight rates are boosted 15 per cent, according to Dr. Julius Parmelee, Vice President of the Association of American Railroads. Mr. Parmelee told the Interstate Commerce Commission that the lower net income would be a profit of only 2.97 per cent of the |carriers’ net investment. However, the Office of Price Stabilization (OPS) opposed the increase on grounds it would produce very serious inflationary pressures.’
