MINNEAPOLIS, May 12— The Minneapolis Millers lowered the home run boom on the Indianapolis Indians, 4-2, here today.

Three circuit clouts accounted for all the Miller scores as the teams squared their current series 1-1. Outfielders Willie Mays and Johnny Kropf and Pitcher Dave Barnhill supplied the four-base blows,

An even more impressive! mound performance was turned, in by Barnhill. Barnhill took over for starter Norman Fox in the second inning and allowed only one safety the rest of the way. Fox had given up three hits in his tenure. Finger Split Fox was forced to leave the game when he suffered a split

Gil Coan’s long fly in the ninth tonight to hand the Boston Red Sox a 5 to 4 defeat and rack

up his fourth straight pitching victory of the season. Co who hit three doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice himself, was the star of the game, however, as a pair of

costly Red Sox errors helped send relief Pitcher Mickey McDermott down to his first defeat. An error by Shortstop Lou Boudreau put Mike Guerra on base in the fourth, Guerra scored with the run that tied the game at 4-all after singles by Marrero and Eddie Yost. In the ninth, Marrero drew a walk off McDermott. An error by Catcher Matt Batts moved him to second. Yost's sacrifice sent him to third, from where he iscored on Coan's high pop iy to short center,

yesterday since Ruttman is come mitted to compete in a sprint car race today at Williams Grove, Pa. Sam Hanks was the 11th driver to attempt to qualify but he was stopped after his third lap because he was ONLY doing slightly better than 130 miles an hour. This is the first time any race car had been flagged because it wasn't going fast enough. Last year 130 miles an hour was a cinch to get into the starting field of 33. Yesterday's speeds proved one point: That the, new Firestone “Profile” tires are two to three miles an hour faster than last year's rubber, The speeds also sent unqualified garage crews back to work to dig for a few more miles an hour, - There are 34 cars in the garage area yet to qualify. One other mishap brought fans on the south turn to their feet when Bayliss Levrett skidded off the track driving the Palmer Special. Levrett, who has been named to chauffeur the un-arrived Jo|seph Hunt entry, was test-driving the Palmer car. He qualified it Levrett was not in-
