WASHINGTON, May 11—The Agriculture Department today estimated the nation’s sovbean stocks on Apr. 1 at 142 million bushels—the biggest backlog on this date in nine years. Officials said the stocks, onesixth larger than -a year -ago, were built up despite a record use of soybeans by processors. Of the total, 46 million bushels were stored on farms. The balance was held in elevator, warehouse, interior mills, and other off-farm positions. Flaxseéd reserves on Apr. 1 were only 26,454,000 bushels as compared to 31474000 bushels last vear. Farm stocks were estimated at 7.066,000 bushels.
