Charges Fly In Dawson Case

Ex-Law Partners Battle in Court ‘|

Charges of “mental illness” flew back and forth in Municipal Court 3 today during the ar-| raignment of Attorney James M. Dawson, on an affidavit charging him with assault and battery on his former law partner, Louis

Rosenberg. The case grew out a slugging affray in Mr. Rosenberg’s law office yesterday, Mr. Dawson “beat up” his former law partner for calling him an obscene name, he said. : The altercation was just another of a series of clashes, both legal and physical, between the two men over the last three years.

Files Charges

Mr. Rosenberg, bearing cuts and bruises, filed the assault and! battery affidavit yesterday after Mr. Dawson burst into his private! office and began slugging. |

In Municipal Court this morning, Mr. Rosenberg asked Judge| pro tem Lawrence Turner to| order a mental examination for Mr. Dawson. . “You better haye one for your- | self.” cracked back Dawson who was laughing apd joking despite;

Refuses Examination |

Judge Turner refused to order! a mental examination and con-| tinued the case to May 18.

The fight grew out of remarks |

about the current mayoralty cam-| paign in which Mr. Dawson has|

The feud between the two law- | yers started more than two] years ago when they dissolved their partnership over the case of “Little David, the boy evan-| geist.” Mr. Dawson was attorney | and guardian for the boy and! Rosenberg was attorney for the evangelist’'s manager. | They engaged in fisticuffs in Juvenile Court over the case.
