Catholics Plan Peace Prayer Drive

Special May Devotions Planned

Catholics of Indianapolis and the world will lift a tremendous. barrage of prayer befween Communists and the free world during May. J 8ince the closing years of the 16th Century, Catholics have | dedicated the month of Mary, or May, to the Blessed Virgin, While every Catholic Church and institution will pay special tribute to the Virgin during her month, the church and college of this community which bear her name deserve particular mention, Hundreds of Indianapolis persons are expected to take part in the Mary Day devptions and May Day ceremony held in the Church of St. Mary, New Jersey and Vermont Sts, Tuesday at 7:30 p. m.

May Day Ceremony

Young girls, led’ by Rosemary Bumen, Sodality prefect, will crown Our Lady’s statue in May Day ceremonies Tuesday at 11 a. m., on the campus of Marian College. The very core and center of all the May crownings, ceremonies and pageantry will be prayers for peace. The Church of St. Mary has planned an outdoor candlelight procession, hymns and prayers a G Sab for the May Day services. Throughout the month, at 5:25 OUR LADY OF FATIMA — and missing of over 200,000 men.”

Blessed Sacrament will conclude the services. A feature of the day will be the singing of the hymn| ending: “We crown thee, Our) Queen and Mother fair.” It was’ composed for the occasion by Sister Clarence Marie and set to music by Sister M. Vitalis.

“A special significance attaches to the May ceremonies at the pres-| ent time since May 1 is observed of Socialists and Communists| throughout the world as a day of | demonstration against free democracies,” Father Goossens commented. “In 1945, at the end of World War II, only 195 million people of Russia were completely in the hands of the Communists. To-| day, only six years later, the number of those enslaved has increased to the staggering total of| 900 million people. During the past 12 months alone, since last May Day, the Reds have com-| pleted the enslavement of all China with its 450 million people. Half of the human race is now under Red rule. “The war in Korea, which began .last summer, has cost the forces of the United Nations’ total casualties in killed. wounded,

It’s fine to have someone “on your side.” Here was Tommy, for instance. He had waked up early this morning and had dressed all by himself. This was the first day of Daily Vacation Bible School, and all his favorite playmates would be there. And then he had heard his mother say he couldn’t go, that she was too busy to stop her work and take him to the church. He was just about to burst into tears when his sister asked if she might walk with him to the church. : Because of his sister, Tommy was able to go, but in thousands of other cases such as this, the story is not ending as happily. Won't you make a definite effort to help your children, and your neighbor’s meer religious training? Take them to the church, where the sure standards of Christian living are taught. Won't you take them? Won't you be “on their side?”
