believe me, what does obedience mean to you? Slavery? Browbeaten compliance to the will of the strong by the weak? If that is what you mean by obedience, no wonder you haven't felt you could ask ir. of your child. Webster defines it. He was a good American, Don't let anyone steal his definition from you. He says it is “subjection to rightful authority.” You are not independent if you can't subject yourself to rightful authority. Arthur's parents believed that to ask obedience from him was to infringe on his personal liberty. When as a small boy,
he ‘declined to go to bed, he stayed up, Later when he declined to go to school, he stayed at home or went to the movies,
Not so much later, when he was arrested for breaking the school attendance law, he was put on probation. But as Arthur had never been taught how to subject himself to rightful authority, he broke the conditions of his probation and got into trouble that sent him to a penal institution for boys.
TO BE insubordinate is to be out of order. To be out of order is to be in chaos. That's where Arthur had been placed by parents who were too late learning that price of per-

Ulcer Varies
By EDWIN P. JORDAN, M. D.
SUPPOSE you have had pain in the stomach region or peculiar stomach sensations for a few weeks and go to the doctor. What next? The story that you tell may raise the suspicion of ulcer of the stomach. The doctor wants to make sure before starting treatments. S o m ething should be said about treatment, because people often get confused about It and wonder why one person is treated one way for ulcer and the next-door neighbor another.
» 8.8 IN general, medical treat-
ment is aimed at avoiding irritation of the ulcer from acid, nervous strain, or anything else so that the ulcer will be given a chance to heal. Surgical treatment, of which their are several kinds, has a similar purpose unless the particular operation is for removal of the ulcer and the stomach area around it.
