Indiana Group Demands Firing of Acheson, Support of MacArthur China Proposals
American Legion recommendations on how to wage war and! .|diplomacy in the Far East were being mailed today to Indiana: Congressmen. Recreation Area Urged by Mayor
Mayor Bayt today urged that a slum area on the Northwest Side by cleared to make room for recreational facilities. The Mayor said an area just west of the Flanner House, on W. 16th and N. Missouri Sts., “is badly blighted, over-crowded and in need of recreational facilities.” He recommended that a twoblock section be converted into a park or be used as site of a community center. The Mayor referred his recommendations to the Redevelopment Commission and Park Board at a meeting this morning. Mayor Bayt also reopened plans for a new Northeast Side community house, a project shelved in 1949 because money was not available. He asked the Park Board to reconsider replacement of the overcrowded and run-down Hill Community House, 18068 Columbia Ave. The proposed. building would include a gymnasium, nursery
