Gain in State Surplus Seen

$20 To $25 Million Likely at Year's End

Indiana's upcoming = financial squeeze may prove less troublesome than anticipated if revenues continue their present pace. State income from all sources during the first quarter of 1951 promises a surplus of $20 to $25 million at the end of the 1952-53 fiscal year, according to State Auditor Frank T. Millis. Previous predictions had held the surplus to not more than $4

million at the end of the fiscal period. Sees New Tak Need However, Mr. Millis said the

revised revenue estimate will still call for new taxes to replace the remainder of $44 million to be expended out of surplus funds. Motor vehicle and gas tax fees brought in $28.5 million during January, February and March this year, Mr. Millis said. This new high will allow dis-
