Ries for Parolee And Cabbie Set
Killed in Battle on Near East Side
Services for a Federal parolee and a taxicab driver whom he shot to death will be only a few hours apart tomorrow. In Shirley Brothers Central Chapel, services for Ralph Edward Wells, 28, will be at 10 a. m. followed by burial in New Crown. Services for his victim, Walter Truman Jr., 38, will be at 3 p. m. Place for burial is undetermined.
Both men died Sunday night Wells from wounds received in a gun battle with two policemen at Shelby and Maryland. Sts., Mr. Truman - from wounds incurred earlier apparently in attempted defense of his cab. Found Wounded Police said Wells, who was driving the cab, fired at them when they tried to question Rim. They found Mr. Truman in the back of the cab, wounded. He died in General Hospital,
A native of New York City. Mr. Truman had lived here 15 vears and had worked several times for the Red Cab Co. Prior to his last period of amploymert. which began in January he had been an auto license examiner in the Statehouse for two years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a Civil Defense Auxiliary police uhit.
