Cites Local Role In Crime Fight

By DAN KIDNEY WASHINGTON, Apr. 5-—- Rep. Charles B. Brownson, Indianapolis Republican, had high praise today for FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover's proposal that local and state governments clean up their own crime nests. i Citing the recent appearance of Mr. Hoover before the Kefauver Committee, Mr. Brownson called the Hoover testimony “one of the most important statements made in “Washington during the three months in which I have been a Congressman.” ‘When the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation fights off its becoming a "national . police force” and thus seeks to curb his own power, the incident is unprecedented, Mr. " Brownson contended. “There are some places where almost evervbody concedes there must be federal activity.
