Longer Banking Hours
and a Five-Day Week
Here's what this new schedule means to you as a bank customer...
The Indiana General Assembly has a ved banks in Indiana to join the many other businesses which operate on a five-day week. Effective Monday, April 23, the Indianapolis banks listed below will institute a new schedule of longer week-day hours and a five-day week for bank employes. After April 23, the banks will no longer be open on Saturdays. And, during the week, daily banking hours will be extended to give you even more banking time each week. Hours will be: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p-m., Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Many services will be available until 4 p.m., as outlined below.
Contrary to previously published reports, however, the banks will not change the present schedule for holidays. In order to observe in full the Indiana law

governing holidays, the banks will not be open on legal holidays. But when a legal holiday occurs Monday through Friday, the banks will be open the following Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
The decision to make these changes in banking hours was not an easy one. But it was a necessary, forward step if the banks of Indianapolis are to continue the service you now have and éxpect. Primarily, the decision was made in fairness to bank employes. Industry generally, and many other businesses, now offer their employes a five-day week. In order to maintain the staff of more than 2,000 trained and experienced © ° employes who now serve you, the banks decided that they should provide equivalent working conditions.
Before the new hours were adopted, however, the situation in other cities with five-day bank weeks was carefully investigated. For some time, banks ha¥e been on a five-day week in such cities as New York, Chicago, Louisville, Cincinnati, Detroit, Cleveland,

St. Louis, Milwaukee—as well as Ft. Wayne and Evansville here in Indiana. In all these cities, bank customers rapidly became adjusted to the new hours and the extra week-day convenience that they offer.
Here in Indianapolis, the banks hope that you will find the new schedule convenient and timieconserving in many ways. For example: under the new schedule, you will have a total of three and one-half hours of additional banking time, Monday through Friday. Because the business load in each bank will be more evenly distributed, you will get better and faster service. In addition, your bank has several special services to help you. Deposits can be made at any time with the handy “‘Bank-by-Mail” envelopes available from all banks. By making use of the convenient *“Night Depository” service, business people can make their deposits quickly, safely and easily outside of regular banking hours.
Schedule for HOLIDAYS
Banks will not be open on legal holidays. When a holiday occurs Monday through Friday, banks will remain open the following Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
