Current Iran Unrest May Help Turkey to Enter Pact Group

Strategic Location Plus Aid in Korea

Her Admittance

By PETER LISAGOR : ‘

WASHINGTON, Mar,

21 (CDN)—Turkey may be helped in its

bid for inclusion in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by

current unrest in Iran.

The nervous condition in Iran,

the need for the strongest possible Allied anchor in the eastern’ U. 8. join

Mediterranean. Ever since the NATO powers met in New York last September the Turks have actively sought membershjp in the treaty group. Greece also wanted in as the other half of the Mediterranean flank. The two countries managed to get an “associate” membership at New York. It meant they weuld be consulted on planning as it affected their area. Wanted Close Group Reluctance to include

members to keep the pact as closely knit as possible. They

the valor of the Turkish brigade in Korea. : More than that, military visitors have returned from Turkey f{mpressed with the toughness of its

400,000-man army and its willingness to resist Soviet aggression.

Strategic Position This has been particularly true
