OW YOU WEAR YOUR Easter bonnet will be almost as important, this year, as the new skypiece itself. Big hat, little hat, in-between hat, whatever its style or shape, it's likely to take a level-headed

attitude toward its wearer. More than likely, too, it will sit firmly on the hairline, or not much back of that line. And it may even have a small under-the-brim platform to hold it snugly to the head.

Aside from the prevailing level look, spring “hattitudes” may be just about as varied as are types of wearers. 8.8 @ . . .

FLOWERS ARE GOING to the heads of many women next Sunday . . . in blossom-laden bonnets. Noteworthy difference this year is that the flowers are most often tiny ones, in small clusters or masses, rather than big individual blooms. Solidly covered with beige + flowerlets is a bonnet (large cut, upper left) from Ayres’ third-floor Millinery Department. It is $12.95, and has a few rhinestones sprinkled about to suggest dewdrops. A pointed “pixie bonnet” from Wasson’s third-floor Hat Shop tops a caramel straw and velvet combination with a miniature nosegay. This one is $8.95. The opencrowned pink flower diadem, from Block's fourth-floor Paragon Shop, is $8.95, too.

The level look is more pronounced in sailors than in any other spring hat styles. (An ideal “suit hat,” the sailor is expected to get a big play when next Sunday's Easter suits go on parade). In the larger picture (upper right) is a white toyo sailor, square-crowned and with narrowing back-brim. Banded in scarlet and pine green grosgrain, it also has a gold ornament. Price: $12.95. 2

. The sailor comes in many guises, some of them Jess severe than the square-crowned, straight-brimmed ‘styles. One, for instance, has a fluted brim and pearl teardrop trim for softening effect. This (milan-type

straw), with a velvet “platform” beneath its brim, is $7.95 at Block's first-floor Hat Bar. Then there's the round-crowned sailor. Pictured is a mauve petti-purl straw sailor with velvet band and gold star accents. From Ayres’ third-floor ‘Millinery Department, it is $12.95. What miglif sabe" called ‘geometrical hats”—the bicornes, tricornes and quatrecornes—carry on with the level look as an adjunct to Easter suits. Three are shown in a small group (upper right).. From Ayres’ second-floor Meridian Shops comes a natural petti-purl tricorne with pearl-rimmed top button... and veil... for trimming. Its price is $8.95.

A lifted, off-the-face bicorne roller of scarlet Zenith

straw rests on its own navy velvet platform. It hails

from Block’s second-floor Hat Bar and is $6.95. From Wasson'’s third-floor Millinery Department comes the quatrecorne pictured. An Elizabeth design, it is coffee and white petti-purl straw and is $12.95. » . td » J » THIS SPRING'S chignon bonnet gives the cue to letting your back curls come out in the open. Even though it’s called “chignon” bonnet, you don’t have to have a bun of hair (your own or ‘“boughten”). The upward-turning ends of your slightly longer hairdo will serve as ‘“chignon.” Largest of the three chignon chapeaux shown is from Wasson's French Room. Brown novelty rough straw is banded in velvet and given flower clusters at either side. The bonnet is $15. Also from Wasson's, the third-floor Hat Bar. this time, is the bellcap bonnet

‘which also fits into the chignon group. A bit more

tailored, it still has the typical high cut in back—plys a velvet stickup trim . .. and a $5.95 price tag. The chignon bumper style shown can be seen in Ayres’ second-floor Meridian Shops. Lilacs and lilac velvet ribbon accent the rounded lines of the white Zenith straw. It also wears a $5.95 price tag.

[Expect Boost in Sales

Scarcity of clothes is not forecast for spring or summer, but increased jewelry purchasing is expected.

“I've always said I could forecast a national emergency by the kind of jewelry women wear,” said Mme. Majeska, a jewelry designer for Heller & Sons, Inc. | “And I've never seen things so |elaborate as now.” | Elaborate jewelry, in Mme. Ma{jeska’s pearl-studded crystal ball, coincides with war, “Instead of one necklace, women wear two or three” she continued. “Pearls are combined with colored stones, and even the pearls are made in all colors. |We're just adding and adding, .ike {people who eat when they don’t have to. |Pins Important

Spring jewelry will feature more simulated semi-precious stones {like rose quartz, dmethysts, topazes. ’ “We'll have a lot of pink and amethysts,” said a costume jewelry buyer for Saks Fifth Ave. “When that dies down we'll have yellow. Pins and earnings are very important for spring... not tiny scatter pins, but larger sizes.” Even the cultured pearl makers recognized the trend toward more elaborate jeweiry and combined pearls with zircons, garnets or gold, according to the Neptune Cultured Pearl Syndicate. One change is probably inevitable in women’s jewelry. If wartime necessity dictates, no jewelry will be made containing tin, copper or nickel. . “You'll see more silver jewelry from now on, and more jewelry made with practically no metal,” predicted Miss Percilla. “The industry hopes to get enough .copper, for a thin coating oh zine and
