Children between the ages, of 8 and 11 assemble in another room where they make objects) related to the Christian faith, The little church which they al-| most have completed was made] on Thursday nights. It resembles the type so often seen in the Englsh countryside, The church ex: tends about 52 inches in length and 28 in width, A pointed steeple ' surmounts it and a bell swings in the tower. The whole Gothic structure is built of plyboard painted to simulate stone. It stands on a grassy lawn made of - green flack. First they made many dolls of pipe cleaners and colored crépe paper. Thesé became the congregation which, was duly organized as «}l congre-, gations are. As for the windows, Miss | Barbara Frantz, daughter of Dr. Frantz, supervised their making. Miss Frantz did considerable re-| e! search and brought the information to the children, Copies of the National Geographic Magazine and movie films helped them visualize windows of great beauty found in the world. They painted religious symbols in water color on onion skin paper for the windows, of course Miss Frantz interpreted the symbols. The children rubbed the decorated paper with olive oil and placed it between sheets of transparent .plastic. And you would be surprised to see how good a ‘substitute this makes for stained glass. CHURCH WITHIN A CHURCH—Thirky children of the First Presbyterian Church built this model church and made its complete furnishings, The young builders range in age from 8 to II. The handicraft taught them the use and meaning of & church and its liturgical objects. They will give it to their Sunday school so that other boys and girls can learn as much as they have.
