If you missed Saturday's column, you can still make the puzzle from the illustration in the first figure. The object of the puzzle is to remove the cord and buttons without untying or breaking the string. : : The solution’ is simple. Bend the puzzle so that the long middle =1/{ strip hangs down in the center of the fold. Now with very little { effort you can pull this long one-fourth inch wide strip through the | three-eighths inch hole, and it forms a loop. It is now easy to slide one or the other of the buttons through this loop, and you do not have to untie any knots or break the cord! I bet that you TRY-ITeers have some similar puzzles which involve a little handiwork. If you do and want to share them with other readers, mail a homemade sample with a written explanation
