Big Problem is Faced By Home Seamstress In Altering Patterns
What Size to Use and Modifications
First Consideration in The Times Contest By JEANNE JONES Altering patterns to fit the figure exactly is a problem that frequently confronts the home seamstress.
What size pattern to use and how to make modifications are among the first considerations of readers who will enter The Times National Sewing Contest. Patterns have heen painstakingly sized to fit a specific group of measurements. Individual deviations can be corrected by making slight adjustments of the pattern before cutting. The important figure measurements to know are: Height, bust waist, front and back waist lengths. skirt length, shoulder length and arm length. To insure accuracy, it is best to have someone else take these measurements. It is important to know, too, that patterns are usually classified under the following headings. teen-age, junior miss and misses, For young girls or those under 5’ 2" with short waists and narrow shoulders, the teen size
would ‘be most satisfactory. The Pattern below the hipline and inJunior miss division {is around %ert a slip of paper to give ihe 5'4” and falls into sizes 11, 13, 15 desired length and 17.
