AFTER JUDY HOLLIDAY had spent several seasons making her own personality synonyous
with that of Billie Dawn in the
stage version of “Born Yesterday,” she had to fight with all her might to land the part in the movie version. Seems that movie moguls wanted to try everybody in Hollywood for the part in preference to Judy, but during the years Judy had portrayed Billie Dawn on Broadway she had warped the part to
her own personality so that it
could never be pried loose. Result is that Judy and Billie are still one,
If you aren't acquainted with the story, “Born Yesterday" concerns an uncouth junk dealer (played by Broderick Crawford) who has pushed himself up the financial ladder through a series of shady deals. He goes to Washington, D. C,,
Vacationing in Italy, concert pianist Joan Fontaine and Jo: seph Cotten, an engineer, meet and fall in love in ''September Affair.” Cotten has run away from his wife, whom he no longer loves.
