“Tennessee Walt? | Ballet Russe Already a Sellout
Hits Sour Note
Co-Authors Center Of Legal Dispute
“Tennessee Waltz,” Pee Wee, King and Redd Stewart are the center of what may be a long, legal battle. The courtroom con-| troversy is slated to start next! week In Nashville, Tenn. Mr. King and Mr. Stewart, currently appearing on: stage at the, Lyric Theater, are co-authors of! which the’ Acuff-Rose Song Publishing Co. originally published and boosted | to fame. Now, the Ernest Tubb Music| Corp. has published another version of the same song listing Mr. | Stewart as the sole composer. The!
Tubb company claims Mr. Stewart was under an exclusive compos-|
Jng contract to it when the song
was copyrighted in 1948. Warns Radio Outlets Big hitch in the affair is that
the Tubb company has notified
all recording and radio outlets of its claim to the song in its entirety. If the Tubb publishers can wifi the suit being brought against it by the Acuff-Rose Co., then Tubb will be owner of the “Tennessee Waltz” which has
sold one million sheet copies and ,
three million records to date.
Mr, King and Mr. Stewart are continuing their four-a-day stage stints at the Lyric here, while the song publishers prepare for battle in Nashville.
