Company Cuts Corners, Saves On Its Costs |

Wasteful Guesswork | Eliminated, Consumer | Gets the Benefits

Ko-We-Ba fights costs, mops {= ,up lost motion, to keep prices : down, | Officials of the company, in a - highly competif{ve business. have sess literally cut corhers to maintain low prices, deh A. C, Gisler, vice presient and operations manager, a student of materials handling, is a warehouse expert. And that’s where the money is saved. He has mechanized the entire |g operation, taken ' out wasteful] guesswork, and has made the| handling of food actually the] shortest distance between any two points, Of every dollar spent in the | food industry about 37 cents goes | essing plants; warehouses, and — ” mb to the grocer’'s shelves. Easier to Push Than Lift That's why Ko-We-Ba built a one-level warehouse at 50 8. Ko-We-Ba Lane. “It's easier to push a ton than lift it,” one company spokesman said wisely. And elevators are expensive to install and maintain. Along the same line, the company bought a hydraulic lift which will hoist a ton of packing cases almost through the roof by simply turning a lever. This power lift again contributed its share of cost-trimming to Ko-We-Ba customers, both retailers and housewives, : But the basic study of the warehouse shows a system as ef-| fective and efficient as an automat eatery. Orders Filled Quickly

When an employee is filling an order for a grocer he does not! have to move a heavy case nor travel far. Ko-We-Ba has a selection line which makes it easy and quick to fill orders. The employee moves along with a push truck, loads on case lots at each station until he gets to the end of the assembly line. There is no heavy lifting, no unpiling of dozens of cases of one item to get at another. Prices Down, Quality Up This reflects the spirit of the entire Ko-We-Ba organization, experienced in the ways of the worid’s biggest business, filling] stomachs at regular intervals, to keep prices down, and quality up. In designing the warehouse the Ko-We-Ba executives had a minimum of human motion in mind. And one of those motions has to do with the labor of the consumer, | the person who buys Ko-We-Ba| products. i Food With Less Labor

And officials of the company point out, as a reward for their diligence that the consumer actu-| ally does less work to eat Ko-We-| Ba products and eats better. All of which, they chuckle, gives the customer more change to put into the family piggy bank, or into the family nest egg for a car or a house, or a washing machine. | They'll tell you that you can] buy most of the things you want with what you save if the label is Ko-We-Ba.

Apricots With Seeds Rare Table Delicacy |

Ko-We-Ba remembered a can-| ning trick too soon forgotten. | Seeds are left in Ko-We-Ba’'s| whole peeled apricots. That's like grandmother used to do when canning peaches. Flavor seeping | from the seed makes a delicacy.’
