King, Republican utility official (Indianapolis Power & Light Co.), the bill creates a commission to study advisability of merging various governmental units of Marion County into one metropolitan district. Authorizes $30,000 appropriation and requires the commission to report to 1953 General Assembly.

HOUSE BILL 229-—-Introduced by J. Perry Meek, Republican real estate broker, the bill orders Marion County Commissioners to revise township boundaries so that all of Indianapolis is in one township.

HOUSE BILL 231-—Introduced

by Mr. King, the bill would reestablish 75 per cent as the minfmum number of property owners to make effective remonstrance against an annexation. In 1949, the percentage was reduced to 51 per cent. . HOUSE BILL 233—Introduced by Addison M. Dowling, Republican attorney, the bill would reenact the 1945 law requiring approval of .both Indianapolis and Marion County Plan Commissions for any new incorporations or annexations in Marion County.

The three bills have the enthusiastic support of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. Carl Dortch, governmental research director of the Chamber, .explained the organization's position as: “We are for one standard of assessing property and for one standard of distributing relief. In addition, we feel that there should be a more equal distribution of taxation.” Mr. Dortch pointed out that House bills 229, 231 and 233 would

not affect the county school sys-|

tem, despite reports to the contrary. He said the bills merely give Indianapolis control over its own city.
