Pin Hopes On Evansville To Save Loop

Five Teams Now In Hard-Pressed

Pro Cage Circuit Transfusions have saved patients before. The National Professional Basketball League today hoped new blood would prolong its flickering life.

Yesterday the NPBL met here in the Claypool Hotel. The league drew its breath and blossomed into a five-team circuit, adding Evansville’s Agogans to the roster. The entry of the Evansville

Manual's Piano-Playing Junior Beats High-Scoring Tune Off Backboards

Dick Nyers Leads High School Scoring With 18.2 Point Average

By JIMMIE ANGELOPOLOUS

A piano-playing Junior is playing the top tune on the city and county basketball scoreboards this week. But he may have to

play a duet with Warren Central’

' |must think 35 points are enough to score in one ball game. The clever Warrior pivotman passed up four additional chances to score against Greenfield Monday by passing off in the fourth-

quarter. but Hage still’ managed to surpass Franklin Township's Phil Wampler with the season's best one-game scoring effort. Hage is six-tenths of a point per game ahead of Wampler, hitting 17.8 each outing; Wampler has a 17.2 average in 18 games and a total of 310 points. Hage's

single game county scoring output, In 15 games, Hage has scored 267 points. But Manual's Dick Nyers still heads the pack with a respectable 18.2 point-per-game

at Beech Grove last night. The deft - fingered junior is |eight-tenths of a point ahead of

8 modest senior, Bob Hage, who

the 17.4 average that won the city-county scoring race for Sacred Heart's Ray Riley last year. Riley had 348 points in 20 games. Nyers has two more season games and at least one sectional tilt for a 20-game total,

Tonight's five-game bill finds the prolific point pourers idle. Heading the card is the Crispus Attucks-Cathedral engagement at Tech. Sacred Heart goes to Monrovia and Edinburg comes to Deaf School's gym. Both games were frost-bitten last week. Pike Township is at home to Zionsville and Decatur Central travels to Mooresville in other games.

Like most Royals-Olymps games this one was flavored in the last few minutes. Daves Threatens Daves breathed on the Olymps’ necks at 00:57 when he sank two free throws at Barnhorst's expense. That made it 76-74. But Hale got it back, one of them on a foul by Red Holzman. Then Bruce was hacked intentionally by Jack Coleman at 20 seconds.
