Freeman of Franklin. Mr. Freeman had leveled “serious” charges against the two Democratic \commissioners in a confidential memorandum to the Governor. 3 Asks ‘Cleanup’ Mr. Freeman appeared at the hearing yesterday and asked the Senate committee “to help clean up that mess upstairs.” A former state representative and one time director of the PSC railroad division, Ray Gilbert, said Mr. Abbett and Mr. Cannon were “95 percent against the public interest.” : Mr. Gilbert, who is now a representative of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, said: “Whenever 1 have to go before the commission I know I'm going to get a gyping. I'm a Democrat but I say we ought to kick out the two Democrat members.” " He quoted. the late Mayor Al Feeney in criticizing the commission: “This is no Public Service Commission. It is a Utility Commission.” Declines to Comment Lloyd Wampler, the assistant public counselor, was present but declined to comment on how the PSC was hindering his office. Before the hearing closed, Sen. Eichhorn, told the committee: “This should have been done long ago. I'm a Democrat, but the people of my area elected me senator to serve them and, by gosh, I want to vote for this Bill.” After the conference, Sen. Johnson said he thought a complete investigation of the PSC should be made at once. “If things are as rotten with the commission as some people say,” he said, “we should find -out about them.” Sen. Kendall said the bill will be held by the committee for “fur-| ther study.” Statehouse observers interpreted his statement to mean that he does not intend to “em-| barrass the administration” and will kill the bill in committee. Although some Democrats say the measure would give the Governor “an easy out” to fire the commissioners, others said he doesn’t want to be faced with the
