IU Cagers Show Miserably at Free Throw Line to Lose 64 to 62

Bad example can do awful things to records. Ask Indiana. Last night the Hoosiers dropped their first game of the year, 64-62, at the hands of unbeaten Bradley. Coach Branch MeCracken’s team lost out by doing something it learned from Butler in the Hoosier Classic last week . . . missing free throws. Butler set a dubious Classic record when it missed 27 of 41 charity toses against Indiana. And it must have been conta-| {ination in the second half to hand gious. NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 28 (UP) ~—Between the draft and graduation, the golden era of post-World War II football may end with the Sugar Bowl for Oklahoma and Kentucky. Graduation will cost Oklahoma, | the nation’s No. 1 team, seven offensive and defensive starters. It will cost Kentucky 17 men, includ-

The draft and callups of reserves may riddle what the teams have left, including the coaching staffs. Both coaches, Charles (Bud) Wilkinson of Oklahoma and Paul (Bear) Bryant of Kentucky, are Naval Reserve officers.

Taking the floor for the Evansville Aces Saturday night when meet Butler at the Fieldhouse are senior lettermen Lamy Holder (left) and Jim Barnett (right). Larry, at 5-10, is the shortest member of the startingsfive. Jim has won varsity letters the past three years taking over in the forward and center spots. Evansville thumped Butler, 82 to 61, last night in Owensboro, Ky.

At Delaware, 356 teams will compete, compared to 398 last season. At Speedway 568 teams will vie for the title, while there

Subject To Recall As such, 'théy are subject to re{call at any time. So are Assistant Coaches Gomer Jones and George Glynn of Oklahoma, both Naval Reserves, Freshmen Coach Bill Jennings and Athletic Business Manager Ken Farris of Oklahoma are Marine Reserves. They've been expecting the call a long time. Bryant's first assistant, Carney Jones, is a Naval Reserve. 80 is Clarence Undarwood, who coaches Kentucky's centers and Backfield Coach Frank Moseley is a Naval Reserve, but is going VPI, so Kentucky will lose him in any case. As to players, the coaches explained that they ought to be able to keep most of their reserves, if the international situation doesn't get worse plus whatever first-stringers don’t graduate. The reason is that they are in the advanced reserve officers training corps. Ripe for Draft . The general policy has been to let advanced ROTC students finish their college courses, when they become available as second lieutenants. But both teams are depending heavily on last season’s freshmen for 1951's varsity team. That is where the rub comes in. While most of the freshmen take ROTC training, they are in basic classes and probably ripe for the draft. This is the situation, as Oklahoma and Kentucky see it, if the war doesn't spread and the armed forces are expanded as President Truman has prescribed.
