~ 3500 fans at Tech. Balch might have helped opel up Tech’s defense with his long shots. He might have forced Tech to yield more than 38 points— Tech's average defense for the Year. But that’s all conjectpre, Tech, too, has its own set of “ifs” and “mights.” The Green had one of its few bad nights — in fact, it's worst ‘hitting of the year —.224. The hosts fired away 89 times for 20 hits and probably had the worst of the “hard-luck” on shots that wouldn't fall. ‘No Luck With Free Ones Tech's Joe Sexson had his second worst night—a 5-for-25 performance. - Myron Moriarity hits better than 2-for-17. And Tech couldn't convert the free ones— hitting only 11 of 26. Shortridge managed 10 of its 14 charity flips and hit 14 field goals. The Blue Devils could get no more than 49 shots mostly because Moriarity, Joe Sexson and Myron Garland were bulwarks in the rebound department. The game was ragged at times and it was rough. But the game was unusually clean-cut, well handled by the officials, for a game as hard fought as this one.
Narrow Lead
It was a tight contest for a quarter and a half until Joe Sexson and Garland hit two apiece in a sudden Tech rush that moved the count from 18 to 15, to 30 to 21, at the halftime. Gil Bierman’s two field goals in the first helped Tech to a 9 to 3 lead before Shortridge narrowed it to 11 to 10 at the end of the first.
Tech dominated most of the second half play, safe-guarding its margin with a 42 to 30 thirdquarter standing. Shortridge managed only three field goals in the third quarter and two in the last.

Overtime In addition to the Techshortridge tilt, .there were \ four other games played in the “ity, and county last night. Two of the contests were tighter than chea) shoes after a rain. : The toughies were Elwood's 4846 conquest of Southport and Sacred Heart's 50-48 overtime loss to Ben Davis. : Cathedral sprinted by Washington in surprisingly easy fashion, 48+33, and Lawrence Central dropped Pendleton, 47-38. Southport started out like it wanted to win in haste. The Cards ran up an 11-0 score right away. Elwood didn't score until four minutes of the first quarter had
slipped by. It was 13-6 at the post.|
Elwood came to life in the second period, took the lead, 14-13, got by an 18-all situation and held a 27-22 advantage at the half, The visitors pulled their lead to 48-42 in ‘the fourth quarter with two minutes left. Then the Cards got busy and came within two points in the last minute. But it wasn’t enough. 19 for Dwenger Ben Davis had a good word for clutch-player Jim Bacher today
