: IFTEEN SUCCESSFUL YEARS of operation is not an accident. -
You pay less for gas today, than you did in 1935...
and all things considered, that is a considerable
~ achievement. : Since 1935, the Gas Utility has spent over 13 million dollars in plant expansion and improvement to keep pace with a fast-growing city. | Since 1935, over 4% million dollars worth of Revenue Bonds have been retired as they became due,
paying off bonded indebtedness without the use of a
single penny of taxpayers’ funds.
Since 1937, when: payments in lieu of taxes were -
first permitted, the Gas Utility has paid the Civil and School City over $2,279,000 —reducing by this amount
the taxes you would have had to pay.
Since 1935, the cost of raw materials, from which gas is made, has increased manyfold . . . more employees have been needed to carry on the business of Loo ane TE : et SE Cr at increased rates of pay... yet you pay less for gas today than you did in 1935. The Gas Utility's 15-year record is not an accident. It is the result of management by a group of Indianapolis business men, who operate the Gas Utility without any possibility of personal gain;* the ‘result of an operation entirely-free from political influences and it is this freedom from political control that has made long range planning possible.

* Trustees are paid $50 a year, Directors receive $50 a month ; ; . neither may buy from—or sell to—the Gas Utility any materiols and supplies.
