‘WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (UP)— The government cut civilian sup-'gg ‘plies of nickel and zinc today! with a series of orders that may take the shine off your next car and put it Into gums, planes and tanks. Nickel, which adds the sparkle to automobile bumpers and thousands of other “luxury” gadgets, was ordered cut back by 35 per
cent starting Jan. 1. On the same,
day, a 20 per cent cut will go irito effect on zinc, used widely in electroplating, galvanized steel, and automobile batteries. Inventories of both metals will be restricted severely.
Diverted for Defense The cuts are expected to divert! more than 15 million pounds of nickel and possibly 50,000 tons of zinc to defense production and stockpiling in‘ the first three months -of 1951.
