Not Intimate
Expensive Presents Are in Bad Taste
By JOAN CHRISTMAS cards go out in | | the mail-to as many friends, relatives and acquaintances as | | you to favor. Gifts are | presented only to your nearest | and dearest. { | © It's unnecessary, for iInstance, to send presents to all .-the members..of. your. sorority, |} to the entire school faculty or to the whole office force. And it’s actually bad form to give gifts to casual dates—whether boy to girl. or girl to boy. Between old friends and steady daters, certain gifts are proper; Others -are—not=A=bey |= may give his girl candy, flowers, books, records and inexpensive items such as a cute compact or purse, a charm for her bracelet. Intimate wearing apparel, expensivé-jewelry, furs | and luggage are definitely out. » . » A GIRL never starts the present-giving. If a date of long standing gave her some-’ | thing last Christmas or plans | to do so this she may make a return gift. But she's not obliged to. ! Acceptable girl-to-boy gifts are books and records, homemade candy and cookies, hand. | knit socks and ties or inexpensive ‘gadgets, No other | wearing apparel is in good taste, and no jewelry or expensive equipment.
