He said, “I like Indianapolis and I am particu: larly impressed with the people's love for politics.” “Mr. Okon lives on an 80-acre farm near Westfield with his wife, Esther Josephine, his 10-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Jean, and his six- "year- -old e son, Eugene John. Commenting on his present position with the T. 8S. Collector of Customs office he said, “It's the best government service.” That's loyalty. A native of Chicago, he attended Carl Schurz High School there. Most of his high school eduy cation was accomplished at night, however. During the depression he bad to work days, to help support his mother and father. Immediately after grade school, Mr. Okon went to a business college in Chicago for two years before "continuing his high school education. >
DEPRESSION YEARS and a family 'of his own didn’t stifle his ambition or prevent him from finally getting a high school diploma. In 1939 at the age of 26 he made the grade after years of interruption and with several years of customs service back of him. He also attended Augustana College at Rock 2 Island, Ill, for a year, and Chicago Public Evening College for a year. Today he is planning to further his education at college extension centers
