And Just as Pretty As Spacious
Times Specia. NEW YORK, Nov. 11—The the-| ory that a woman needs in an evening bag just enough space for a lipstick, "compact, comb and handkerchief, Any woman knows that she
needs space for a billfold, door-
keys, mirror, several lipsticks, bobby pins, compact, handkerchief, pillbox, comb, glasses case and three or four perfume vials. Though this is a minimum, it's only - recently that handbag designers have started giving women roomy evening bags which have glamour, too. Evening handbags, designed for
the winter holiday whirl, are both
spacious and pretty. One, adapted from a French candy box, is in white and silver brocade banded in velvet and with a top handle formed by velvet loops. Lined-in black satin, this bag will carry a great deal. Black velvet makes a shirred pouch which ‘can tote a weary load of trifles from late afternoon into evening. ‘Beauty After 40—
Forget Your Birthdays and Other Wil
By EDYTH THORNTON McLEOD
ARE YOU 40? Over 40? Are you frankly 40 or artificially 40? There is a difference! And,
| do take my advice. Forget your | birthdays, concentrate on You.
Middle age isn’t so bad. Aec-
—cept it; don't fight it! And you
will find yourself happier and healthier. But do everything that you can to make yourself attractive, not only physically but mentally as well. . Be frankly 40. By that I
mean, be your age; your best, -
your most interesting, your most charming 40, 50, 60 or whatever.
Mature women have an untapped wealth of background. To use it wisely is a tremendous step forward for happier, better living. To be artificially 40 is to be overly anxious to look young, too young, to try to remove every line and wrinkle, much of which give character and terest to your face,
NO, I AM not advocating a wrinkled skin but no woman over 40 can have a completely smooth skin. That makes her look artificial. A well cared for skin, a well done makeup, yes —by all means. And if you will follow me through the fascinating process of making vour middle vears more attractive, vou CAN, you WILL achieve beauty after 40! Consider your assets in front of a mirror. Tie your hair back, look at your body. Don't pose, just act natural. Bad pesture? Forward - hanging head? Skin dry, hair dry? ‘Getting gray?
Or, if your hair is already gray, is it tinged with yellow? Want to be a Silverette? That's my
name for mature women with silver hair.
