See Significance in Mindszenty's Words By GEORGE WELLER VATICAN CITY, Nov. 6 (CDN)— Pilgrims who poured into Rome for the definition of the dogma of Mary's assumption found a strange, new significance in the final special sermon of Josef Cardinal Mindszenty. Ohio.” Cardinal Mindszenty reminded his hearers, courageously parading under the eyes of thé Communist state police for the last time, that they should pray often to Mary. He quoted Dante’s Paradise Lost to them: “He who wants to go to heaven without Mary's help is like one who wants to fly without wings.”

Praise for Radio Priest

“He lauded an American radio priest, the Rev. Fr. Patrick J. Peyton, “once a miner,” who “daily through the radio makes 16 million American families say the rosary on their knees.” “I wish,” the Cardinal said, “1 could see one million families in mutilated Hungary, kneeling and weaving a rose-chain between Mary and every Hungarian, here and beyond our frontiers.” The last words of Cardinal Mindszenty, ringing here today, were: “I beg the responsible persons to stop this torture of human beings, both open and secret. “Bloodshed is worthy . of no period, of no man, and every bloodshed brings new- bloodshed. They who today hold in hand. the weapons of power must begin, spiritually uplifted, showing society a good’ example, to educate the people. With gunpowder, said a wise statesman, we can destroy eoftages, but not one cottage can be built, “Next to truth the greatest creative and leveling force always has been and always will be love.” Today the harassed church ia Hungary has purchased freedom from. prison camp for its monks and nuns at the price of never fritntioning Cardinal Mindszenty's name. But no name is more frequently mentioned in Rome, for Cardinal Mindszenty was arrested on the second last day of what Pope Pius XII had already designated as the “Year of our Blessed Lady.” Copyright, 1950, for The Indianapolis Time
