HOW Indianapolis helps America say HELLO”
LL OVER AMERICA, Bell telephones serve the housewife calling the corner store, the businessman calling his customer, folks calling friends and relatives. Indianapolis has a growing role in this Bell System service to the nation because more and more Bell telephones are being made right here in the Western Electric plants.
These plants are working as part of a nationwide Western Electric team. The telephone instruments turned out here are linked by cables, switchboards, and equipment made in Western Electric plants in twelve other cities in nine states. x
Western Electric distributing houses, such as the one on West 18th Street, which serves the Indiana Bell Telephone Company, channel this equipment to the Bell telephone companies. Western: Electric people also install the intricate equipment used in Bell telephone central offices. Indianapolis men and women working for Western Electric are playing an ‘important part in supplying America with the world’s finest telephone service.
