CAMP ATTERBURY, Sept. charged today: - ONE: They are not getting

TWO: They have had only a meager clothing issue since

they've arrived.

THREE: Working facilities are poor.

FOUR: No family allotments have been issued. Their gripes weren't just the regular complaints about Army snafu. They pointed out examples to prove it. Nine GIs in the 107th Field raised the Joudest clamor. They blamed the Quartermaster Corps for a shortage of food supplies. But the Quartermaster Corps and the division commanding generals are under Army supervision. The troops are being supplied on “garrison rations,” as the Army has ordered. . ‘Not Cooks’ Fault’ “It's not the cooks’ fault we don’t get enough to eat,” said one corporal in the 107th. “The food fs good, but there just isn't enough of it,” a sergeant added. A private in the 899 Anti-Alr-

craft Artillery Battalion quoted glasses, others lay in Atterbury the -dally mess quip of his bat- General tery. After the meal, the GIs re-/colds. Every third GI interviewed | tort: “That was a good appetizer; had at least a slight case of Connellsville, Pa

“Warking conditions are poor,” a truck driver in the 109th explained. He pointed to a large garage that once bore doors. “Work was interrupted one day when wind carried rain so far

Daniel B. Strickler, division commander, described the situation as ‘only normal with troops moving into a new area.” Gen. Strickler, who is known to be. conscientious ahout his troops, said another 10 per cent sometimes is added to the “garrison issue” to satisfy heartier appetites, The change from civilian life

ale always makes men hungrier. If GIs still complain of insufficient food a week from now, something will be done, the general sald. vos

When questioned about allotments, Gen. Strickler said that issue was between the individual and the Army. “That will be taken care of through our staff,” he

Gen. Strickler said. “Troops did receive extra rations at Indiantown Gap, but my request for the extra 10 per cent for a temporary period was not approved.” The Army did not believe extra rations were necessary, he said.
