Stengel Hopes 2-Day Rest Won't Revive Yanks’ Jinx
Series With Boston
Could Settle Race
By ED SAINSBURY United Press Sports Writer CHICAGO, Sept. 21 — Casey Stengel headed home with his
front-running New York Yankees’ today, sure that his club needs the two-day rest permitted by the schedule. But a little uncertain whether it will be a good thing. § “Sure, they need the rest,” Stengel said. “But it's a funny thing. They've needed the rest before and every time we get it, when we come back somebody snaps us off.” This week-end will be no easy time for the Yankees, holding a slim grip of a half game over Detroit and two games over Boston in the tight American League race, For the pistol-hot Boston] Red Sox move into Yankee Sta- , dium for single games Saturday |thing - about it until he'd pitched and Sunday and it could be that/2n inning.
