Mrs. Druding is widely known in Beech Grove. She should be. In addition to her business, her children were the first to carry The Times in Beech Grove.
Back in 1919, when her oldest son, Edwin, was just eight, he took on an 1l-customer route, the only home deliverer in the area.
When the street cars, or “puddle jumpers,” as Mrs, Druding recalled, hit the mudholes with thé daily afternoon bundle, she would stick the editions into her oven to dry before Ed and her daughter, Bertha, carried the route. Saved for Schooling In several years, when the number of customers had been increased to well over 100, younger brother and sister Darothy and Delbert took over the route.
