This figure is double the figures on a national scale as listed for 1948 in the World Almanae, It states 22.9 per cent of the number who bought marriage licenses later were divorced. Judges also point out that the average couple who comes up for a divorce has been married between nine and 11 years, Judge Ralph Hamill of Superior Court 5 said; x “I don’t know why the figures for Indianapolis should be so

vorce figures are greater metropolitan areas.” Post-War Trend Steady The trend has been fairly steady since the war. In 1946, the all-time high for divorces throughout the nation; 9248 couples applied for licenses to marry here, and 6621 couples filed for divorce. This is a percentage of 71. ? In 1947, 8345 marriages, 5150 divorces filed, 61.8 per cent; 1048, 7524 4533 divorces filed, 60 per cent; 1950 (first six months), 3120 marriages, 2156 divorces filed, 69.1 per cent. Many of the separations leave children who often become juvenile delinquents. Last year 944 children were considered delinquents by Juvenile Court authorities. Of this number about 725 come from. broken. homes. ...That.. is,

there is a lack of it. Other causes have been ad-| vanced now dealing with the fi-| nancial independence of the parties to a marriage. This stems from the necessity of the woman working. Either the couple needs the extra money that the wife can bring home or she got into the habit of working during the war.

The figures on employment of women in Indianapolis from 1945 run in a direct trend with the divorce figures, When placed on graphs they resemble similar mountain ranges. Female Job Rate

In 1945, the rate of females employed In the city fell from 36.5 per cent to 27.8 per cent. The following year the divorce
