§ {Chief Rouls revealed today,
A preliminary probe will await further action Aug. 2 when the {case comes to court. No action iwill be taken against the two patrolmen before then, the Chief. |said. | Chief Rouls said he does not plan to summon witnesses who {reported they saw Patrolmen WilHam Clark and Jack Corydon /hold the prisoner while two park{ing lot attendants beat him. The iprisoner is Walter Hendren, 30, charged with assault and battery. The police chief said he will wait until Hendren appears in Municipal Court 3 Aug. 2. He said a police representative will be in court to hear all evidence. “Witnesses on both sides will be able to testify about the beating,” he declared. ; Lt. William Tremp of traffic division said he began checking on the incident Tuesday, a short time after it occurred. He said his probe has been halted although not compieted. Police reports show-the two patrolmen did not include the charged assault on the prisoner in their written report on the arrest, Witnesses said Officers Clark and Corydon held Hendren while the attendants beat him. The policemen watched while two attendants knocked Hendren to the floor, kicked at him and “walked on his ear,” witnesses declared. Both Mayor Feeney and Leroy Keach, president of the Safety Board, said punitive action is up to Chief Rouls—for the time being. They have not entered the investigation but are awaiting a report from the chief.

Russia didr’t expect America has done. As recently as May 5 the Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote Korea off in an interview for the United States News and World Report. rd He was asked: “Do you think the suggestion that we abandon South Korea is going to be seriously considered?” He replied: “I'm afraid it's going to be serously considered be-! cause I am afraid it is going. to! happen whether we want it to happen or not. I'm for Korea. We're trying to help her—we're| appropriating money now to help; her. But South Korea is cut right| across by this line (the 38th par-| allel) —north of it are the Com-.

I hope not, of course.” Then the Senator was asked: “But isn't Korea an essential part! of the defense strategy?” |
