SITTING PRETTY
It's hard to realize that a few centuries ago chairs were reserved for the nobility, while stools and benches were the seats in common use. Today, besides being our most functional pieces, chairs are an important decorative asset as well. Many a room can be made to “come prettily to life” with the addition of a couple of interesting chairs. For instance: A Louis XVI side chair would mateh the grace of a satinwood kidney desk. The heavier Empire desk chair would be at home with an Eighteenth Century breakfront. The charm of a Tradi- } tional or Contemporary room fi would be enhanced by a Fiddle } Back Queen Anne chair, a Round Back Adam, Shield Back Hepplewhite—or Sheraton and Chippendale side chairs. All combine comfort with delicacy and blend perfectly with upholstered chairs and sofas. A pair of maple Windsors, Comb Back Windsors, or Carver armchairs would highlight an Early American room, As each period reflects the best of Its predecessors, we find traces of the Old Masters in today's Modern chairs. Lines are becoming softer . . . designs less massive. If you're looking for authentic reproductions of period chairs, faithful copies in diminished scale for smaller homes, or chairs of Modern design, come in and see us, We're proud of our chair selection.
