‘Heavens fo Betsy’ Jones #; ‘Swell, Comedy Clever
By Henry Butler = “Heavens to Bessy, ” Tom Boyd's new musical, is a wonderful entertainment package. { This 1950 successor to last year’s “Chalet” is a prime | example of how really great talent can make progress. | Last night's opening on the IU Building stage at the Fairgrounds was in every way a triumph for composerauthor Boyd and his teen-age, yiiriiy playea by Mr. Sheihorn |and Marilyn Gernstein, they're
associates. Imagination, sparkle, wit and good tunes make this show |
something Broadway might well
enyy. In fact, I have a couple of | albums of Broadway-show platers that are dull by comparison on the musical side. This home-grown product should make the city and the state proud. In all my Indiana experience, I've seen nothing to! equal it, That's not because there isn’t talent here, but rather, I imagine, because Tom Boyd, in his deceptively offhand way, has the persistence to carry an idea through to realization, First-Night Flufls From a professional standpoint, “Heavens to Betsy” has its| faults--first-night fluffing and|
