Richard Strouse and John Waldon, happily bolding their 1947 championship cups and receiving official congratulations, may both have been dreaming of the future. Because, for each of them, last year's win was their second. If either wins fop honors this year, he will retain permanent possession of the trophy he is shown holding.

truck drivers—match their precision driving skills in a battle against time in the seventh annual Indiana Championship Truck “Roadeo” to be held in the Cattle Barn at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday.
Winners in each of two classes, including straight truck and semi-trailer, will be crowned Indiana’s champion truck drivers for 1950, and will receive all-expense trips to the national compeitition to be held in New York City in October in conjunction with the annual convention of the American-Truck Association.
Top five drivers in each event also will receive cash awards or other prizes through the Indiana Motor Truck Association, Inc., sponsor of the thrill- packed “Roadeo. »
Public Admitted Free James E. Nicholas, executive secretary of the Indiana Motor Truck Association, said his organization sponsors the event annually to promote driver courtesy, safety and skill. | [this unusual display of prowess.
conditions will have no effect on the results,” Mr. Nicholas said. “Admission is free. No other activities are scheduled at the Fairgrounds, so there will be plenty of parking
Race Against Time
Drivers of straight trucks will have only eight minutes to drive through a cramped seven-obstacle course. than the length of their vehicles, squeeze into nearly impossible parking positions and edge up to narrow loading docks with only a few inches of clearance. Drivers of the larger rigs have a time limit of 10 minutes. Speed -in completing the course is one of factors considered in judging.
So that no driver will have an unfair advantage, each driver will compete in a rig he has never operated before. New trucks and trailers for the contest will be provided by Indianapolis truck equipment dealers. Michigan Mutual Liability Insurance Company donated the revolving trophies. Permanent possession of either trophy requires three state final victories. Only two drivers have a chance to win permanent possession.” They are John Waldon and Richard Strous. These men are, in addition, |the defending champs. : : Local roadeos have been held recently at South Bend, Evansville and Fort Waynaz, Elimination trials will narrow the field of contestants to five in each class. They will begin at 10 a. m. Saturday. State finals will start at 2 p. m. Sunday.
