more than half a century ago by

Allan Pinkerton, During the 1890's! -and- more recently Pinkerton men

and methods figured in many big and bitter industrial econflicts— and, according to their critics, always on the side of management. But now Pinkerton's is held by NLRB to have violated the TaftHartley act because of an illegal

-arrangement with a labor union.}.

The charge is that Pinkerton's committed unfair labor practices by discriminating against four men at the instigation of the union, The union claimed the men were not in good. because of refusal to pay dues. The men questioned the legality of the “union shop” agreement between the San Francisco office of Pinkerton’'s and the unions, and the board sustained them.

and the union also is held liable for the payments for as long as it detective
