MEASURE FROM GROUND TO ers

SHETLAND PONY HEIGHT » Dh 11-2

Big Percheron draft horses. may. weigh over a ton, but little Shetland ponies average from 300. to 500 pounds. Shetlands are small, but they are a child's horse, and a well trained, well mannered pony like the attention and play of children. Our Shetlands here on the farm are wonderful with children, and our old white one shown above is just about nine hands high, “Dickie White,” as he is known, will be 33 years old this summer, but he is still in fine health. He does have a mind of his own and won't stand for teasing, but is gentle and. our children have grown

He is little but sturdy. To measure a pony stand a stick at his side, and sight a mark at his shoulders or withers. Each four inches is a “hand.” Thus a pony measuring 41 inches would be ten hands and one inch high, usually written 10-1. Ponies average from nine hands to eleven

hands and two inches. A large horse is measured in the same way, and a large Percheron may“be 17 hands high. Measure a pony, they are “tops” in fun. TOMORROW—LIift a Bottle With a Sipping
