Cherry Blossoms Bring-Rush of Visitors

-And Diplomats Cavort at Fancy Parties By OLAND D. RUSSELL, Scripps-Howard Staff Writer

WASHINGTON, Apr. 15—Springtime in Washington The town's just dripping in

is as nice as all get out. beauty and hospitality.

It's the time of year when the sap runs in Con-

gressmen, moving them to Congressional Record. It's the time of year when 30,000 visitors come to town to take a- gander at the cherry blossoms. It's the time when diplomats cavort like mad and parties blossom like daffodils, Elephant fanciers are getting: a mammoth kick already out of the party that's goifig” to be given by Col. and Mrs. Unni Nayar of the Indian Embassy. They, are serving cocktails to celebrate the safe arrival in this country of Ashok and Shanti, a couple of jumbos which Prime Minister Nehru of India has given to the Washington Zoo. A roast suckling pig was added to the usual turkey and Virginia ham when Mr. and Mrs. John Shields.held open house on Easter 15ay ilong the lines of a blowout in czarist Russia. Everybody was exclaiming things like “zit!” and “Hola!” over the paska. Paska is made out of cottage chéese, flaked with citron, candied cherries and nuts. Another tidbit was kouletch, a gtovepipe loaf of rich honey-golden bread topped with white icing Mrs. Shields is the former Princess Tatiana Abkhazi of Russia.

- " » ECLAT stood out all over as Mr. and Mrs. Corneal Mack gave their. . traditional Easter Day brunch at the Mayflower. Politics = ard international woes were thrust to one side as sotons, diplomats and a sprinkling of hoi polloi sat down & gab over whisky sours while nibbling at finnan haddie in cream, corned beef hash, sauTURAgeS | and eggs, shad roe and bacon, hot corn bread, all served from fabulous tables decked with masses of blossoming cherry ‘branches. Mme. there, Justice and Mrs. Stanley reed, Attorney General and Mrs, Howard McGrath, the Navy Secretary and Mrs. Francis P. Matthews, Sen, and Mrs. Owen Brewster—to name just a few-—all vowing it was the happiest Easter they'd ever heard of. Still other Easter breakfast
