A TAKE A SPRING HOBO MIKE
WALKING
STICK
Have you ever seen pictures of hobos walking along with their
handkerchief kits tied to the end of their walking sticks? That little
kit contains most of the necessities and personal belongings of the ‘gentlemen of the road.” It is surprising how much you can get into a bandana handkerchief, if you plan and consider each item to be taken. One of these spring days plan a “hobo hike” with a friend. If you are not.in your teens, ask someone older to go with you. Dad or Mother may be able to take a hike with you. This is a good family
activity. If you live in a large city you may want to go to-the end"
of ‘the local busline or drive to a rustic area, then walk. Decide on your goal before you start. Plan your lunch and let each person carry his own food. Include sandwiches, wrapped in bread wrappers or heavy wax paper, fruit, and a candy bar. These will taste mighty good. If you are a Scout and can build a fire, take along a can of soup and crackers. Don't forget to tie a canteen with drinking water to your belt. Fasten your bandana pack to your walking stick with a shoe string, and hike along the byways!
